How to: Use Guided Access
In this how-to guide, we learn how to set up, start, and end a Guided Access session. Guided Access is a built-in accessibility feature that limits your device’s focus to a single app and lets you control which app features are available. For individuals with learning challenges, or for those prone to distraction, Guided Access is a great way to ensure that the proper focus is put on the task at hand.

 

To set up Guided Access:

1. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Guided Access.
2. Turn on Guided Access
3. Turn on Accessibility Shortcut
4. Set a password

To start a Guided Access session:

1. Open the app you want to use
2. Triple-click the home button
3. Adjust settings for the session and then tap start

To adjust the settings:

1. Under Hardware Buttons, press Options. Here you choose what buttons users will have access to, whether or not the user will access to the keyboard, and whether or not motion controls will be enabled.
2. Under Time Limit, press Options. Here you can set up Guided Access to be active for a set period of time. Hit the button next to Time Limit, and choose how much time you would like Guided Access to be active for.

To disable parts of the screen:

1. Turn on Guided Access
2. Triple-click the home button
3. Enter your password
4. Circle any part of the screen you want to disable
5. Use the handles to adjust the area
6. On the top right-hand side of the screen, hit Resume.
7. These areas will be disabled until you hit the small x at the corner of each circle.

To end a Guided Access session:

1. Triple click the home button
2. Enter the Guided Access password
3. On the top right-hand side of the screen, hit End.
